MathMan
MathMan is a critically acclaimed producer and DJ from Dublin, Ireland. He has been described as one of the most talented producers in the country and one of the key people responsible for pushing street music & culture forward in Ireland (District Magazine).
He's been a champion of breaks, UKG and bass music in Ireland for over 14 years, most notably thru his club nights and his seminal, award nominated radio show 'Breakonomics' - which ran on the Irish national broadcasters’ digital station 'RTE Pulse' for six years up until 2014.
MathMan also runs his own independent record label 'Weapon Of Choice' with the majority of his musical output coming thru the label. For MathMan, Weapon Of Choice is as a medium to continue to tell the story and evolution of bass music. The philosophy of Weapon Of Choice is not to be pigeon-holed into one genre of music exclusively. The aim is to promote music, events and content across multiple music genres with the underlying and unifying theme of ‘bass’. Everything within Weapon Of Choice’s musical palette is an extension of the bass music world. From grime, breaks, garage and 2 step to bassline, hip hop and drum n bass.
MathMan’s productions have been supported on national and international stations such as 2FM, Spin, Beat, FM104, BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, BBC Radio Ulster, Kiss FM, Rinse, Capital Dance and many others. His productions are regularly supported by DJ EZ, Shosh, YUQT, DJ SKT, Krafty Kuts, Kessler, Dr. Dubplate, Longeez, Tesflame, Mark Yardley (Stanton Warriors), Tesflame (Homebass UK) and Monotrax amongst others.
As an ambassador and tastemaker within the Irish music scene, MathMan has also curated music stages for leading international brands at some of Irelands biggest and most revered festivals.
MathMan has performed at key stages at most of Irelands leading festivals and clubs – including Electric Picnic, Forbidden Fruit, Body & Soul etc.
MathMan continues to work on exciting music, arts and culture projects with Irish and international artists and continue his own prolific output thru his label Weapon of Choice. He also has forthcoming releases in 2023 on highly regarded labels Hardcore Energy, Garage Shared and Steppers Club amongst others.
‘’ The common denominator is the lust for music as a therapeutic release, of which rave culture is such an integral part. The essence of rave underscores a good deal of MathMan’s productions, which often ignore the delineations of genre by embarking upon triple sonic entendres that incorporate nostalgia, esoteric winks, and the bald and bare forcefulness that encapsulates so much of contemporary music globally. MathMan’s music is sedimentary, containing within it layers of time, the anthropological observations of what makes a city bop, and the memories of settings where a sound first connected; clubs, sheds, car parks, back seats, bedrooms, fields, tents, bars, basements, warehouses, studios, headphones’’– Una Mulally Irish Times (Oct 2019)
